Tourism Statistics of Brazil

Brazil saw a record number of international tourists in 2016 which was greatly boosted by the Olympic Games that were held in South America with Brazil being the host nation. It is reported that Brazil had a total of 6.6 million visitors in that year, which translated into a 4.8% increase from the previous year’s record.

In 2015, approximately 6306000 arrivals were reported in Brazil. Following its high visitor turn up in 2015 and 2016, it was ranked as the number destination in South America and the second destination in Latin America after Mexico. These good numbers are boosted by both domestic and international tourism the country provides.

In terms of numbers and statistics:

Brazil Tourism Organization reported the highest number of visits in 2014 as at 6430000 and the lowest in 1995 at 1991000.

Rio de Janeiro remains the main destination in Brazil, followed by Sao Paulo and then Foz do Iguacu. Fortaleza is tenth and Natal is ranked 13th.

Countries in South America are the most frequent visitors to Brazil making up to 3.73 million visits, followed by Europe, North America and then Asia at 1606495, 735062 and 304786 respectively.
