Record from Japan Tourism

Visitors To Japan Surpass Last Year’s Record, tourism chief says

Keiichi Ishii, Japan’s tourism minister, said that the number of visitors to Japan this year surpassed last year’s record of 24,039,700 last Saturday.

According to officials, the figure was favored by an increase in cruise ships and budget airlines connecting Japan with neighbors including China, South Korea and Taiwan.

Japan Tourism Agency released data in October that showed over 21 million travelers were estimated to have visited in the first months of 2017, almost 18% from the year before.

“The government’s efforts to promote tourism have brought a consistent growth in tourism,” minister Keiichi Ishii said. “We’d like to accelerate steps to cultivate new tourism resources.”
